Attach the downspout to the gutters via the downspout outlet. Attach a short length of downspout to the underside of the diverter. Measure in 4 inches from the end corner of the gutter with a tape measure and mark the bottom of the gutter with a pencil. See gutter rain barrel video above for demonstration.

Subtract 6 to 7 inches and this will become the length of the downspout. Screw the upper end of the downspout to the downspout outlet protruding from the gutter. Connect the diverter s flexible hose to the port on the side of the rain barrel. Use a hacksaw to cut and assemble the downspout and elbows.

Place a step ladder under the area you are installing the downspout. Be sure that the tapered end of the downspout is facing the appropriate direction for drainage. Install a diverter in the downspout positioning it even with the top of the rain barrel. Watch and learn how and stop.

When measuring be sure to start from the ground and end at the flat of the gutter. Step 2 drill a hole in the bottom of the gutter at the 4 inch mark with a 1 inch hole saw attachment to the drill.
