How to put copper on roof.
This old house general contractor tom silva and host kevin o connor show you the proper way to install a copper roof in order to ensure stability resistance to the elements and beauty.
Install the roofing screws vertically along each rib in the panel.
Align the first metal roofing panel so that it overlaps the edging by 1 2 to 3 4 of an inch and is square to the roof line.
At the roof edge you will leave enough copper to overlap the roof by about two inches.
Slide the copper strip under the shingle edge until you hit the nails holding.
By finishing the edge you get rid of sharp edges and complete the look of the roof.
Be sure the larger edge is laid so that the small edge of the next panel will overlap it.
The roof is from a project completed by general contractor jeff sweenor and his team at sweenor builders.
The copper extends the life of the asph.
Run the strips under a row of shingles at the roof ridge making sure that at least 2 inches of the copper are exposed.
Fold the copper back over so it s exposed to the weather and extend it up to about an inch or two above where the cap shingles will overlap it.

The bottom edge of the copper strip can fold underneath the last full shingle placed on the roof.
He first created a paper template and used this template to mark the cut lines on the copper.
Fit copper wire by laying a length of copper wire 2 3mm in diameter along the ridgeline embedded in the angle between the ridge tile and the top course of tiles rainwater will wash copper salt off the wire on to the tiles preventing moss growth.
Then you will fold the copper under and around the lip of the roof.
