How to replace a rottted facia board and gutter.
Remove the gutters from the areas where you are going to replace the fascia board.
3 replace rotted fascias preferably with azek board or other pvc trim boards.
1 check to see if fascias are rotted.
Install new 2x4 lookouts to replace rotted ones or screw a new one to the old one if it s mostly sound.
Then locate the brackets underneath your gutter holding them in place and unscrew them so you can lift the gutter up and away from the fascia.
Common residential gutters are installed using long nails that secure the gutter to the facial board.
Be careful not to damage any nearby roof shingles or flashing.
To start this project use a utility knife to cut all seams and caulk lines around the piece or pieces that you want to replace.
Attach the new fascia.
Position the replacement boards over the rafter and secure them using galvanized nails or 2 5 inches 6 4 cm wood screws.
This will ensure that the board comes away from the wall without pulling any other components.
2 check for damaged boards behind the metal trim.
Pull down to remove the old soffit.
Cut a replacement piece from pressure treated lumber.
Remove the gutter brackets from your fascia so you can reuse them on the new board.
Use a reciprocating saw to chop out the rotted rafter.
Install a new fascia board.
Remove the rotted fascia board.
