Re close the window tightly.
How to seal a window ac unit.
Most window air conditioners have an expanding curtain on either side to help seal any gaps between the window frame and the air conditioner but sometimes this seal isn t perfect.
The best way to insulate window air conditioners is by using foam sealing strips to close off the crack between the window and the air conditioner.
Narrow or hard to reach gaps measure the length of gaps that are 1 8 inch thick or smaller.
Most window air conditioners come with an accordion style flap attached to the sides to fill the open space.
So typically when you install a window air conditioner you have the window the upper part of the double hung window sits on top of the box and then it has sort of like wings that slide out the side of the air conditioner to kind of seal out the space between the air conditioner and the opening of the window correct.
You can also use a cover spread on the face of the air conditioner to prevent heat from escaping through the air conditioner.
Stick the plastic to the tape taking care to seal off the window at every corner and side.
Press the plastic over the tape to ensure a good seal and effectively seal any remaining cold air that could enter your home through the window air conditioner.
Tear off a length of rope caulk to match.
Even extremely small gaps can leak air which reduces the efficiency of your air conditioner.
If the gap is deep you may need to press two pieces into the gap to fill it completely.
To fix this purchase some air conditioner foam seal at your local hardware store if there isn t any with your unit.
Press the caulk into the gap.
This type of caulk is beneficial as it seals gaps where moisture can penetrate and cause damage to the wall.
Choose easy to use acrylic latex caulk when fixing a window air conditioner.
Neglecting to fill the window gap with the foam seal makes your window unit work harder to control the indoor temperature and potentially lets moisture dust and insects enter your home as well.
Then you can cover the foam with a cover spread to prevent heat from escaping.
Step 3 examine the sash.
