In cottage country muskoka where the snow is plentiful here is how to resolve snow and ice issues on. Trim the flashing in the center of the rubber boot with a roofing knife so it fits snugly around the pipe. Panels above the chimney should be removed. Trace the outline of the base of the rubber boot onto the metal roof with a pencil.

Slide the rubber boot over the pipe to check the fit. Apply a jelly bean size dollop of caulk at the corner where the chimney meets the roof. Embed the corner step flashing in the caulk and nail it to the roof with two roofing nails. Work up each side and finally install shingles across the top of the chimney.

Remove the rubber boot. Use a hammer and roofing nails to secure the shingles. Bend legs up the chimney sides about 1 inch. Steel roofing is great but can bring on new problems.

Apply butyl tape to the underside of the closure. Cut two opposing 45 degree notches into z closure to allow a 90 degree bend. Snip and bend a piece of prebent 8 in. The metal i m using is called crinkle black i purchased all my materials at h.
